2013 In Review
January
A Tour of Chicago, Toronto, and Pittsburgh with festival musicians Charles Akert (cello) and Ian Scarfe (piano). The Pittsburgh event alone raised over $1000 for the 2013 season! Special thanks to Linda Dickerson, host and sponsor.
March
A concert in the true spirit of "Alpine Brotherhood", benefiting the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, hosted by the Swiss Consulate in San Francisco and the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco. Our friends from the European Alps sponsored a beautiful concert featuring Canadian soprano Indre Viskontas, Swiss-American cellist Charles Akert, Swiss clarinettist Lux Brahn, and festival director Ian Scarfe in a program of Italian, Swiss and California music.
May
A special "Spring Preview Week" in April, where musicians played two concerts and visited Trinity County schools to perform Mozart's great Piano Quartet in G Minor, and works by Copland, Schumann, and more. Featuring Petr Masek (violin), Ellen Flanagan (violin and viola), Charles Akert (cello), festival co-founder Ellen McGehee (violin), and Ian Scarfe (piano).
June and August
An expanded summer festival featuring four weekends of concerts around Trinity County. Especially memorable was our back-to-back Shostakovich weekends (featuring the Piano Trio and the Piano Quintet), the new Family Concert Series featuring Carnival of the Animals and Peter and the Wolf, outdoor concerts at the lovely riverside Strawhouse Resorts and Indian Creek Lodge, visits to several summer camps to play for the kids, and a musicians' backpacking trip to Caribou Lakes, deep in the Trinity Alps Wilderness area. Special thanks to our "rafting sponsors", Dave and Dana at the Trinity River Rafting Company! (www.TrinityRiverRafting.com)
November and December
A California Tour featuring the Trinity Alps Chamber Players, Edwin Huizinga (violin), Charles Akert (cello) and Ian Scarfe (piano) were joined by special guest Sacha Rattle, a clarinettist based in Berlin, Germany. The quartet presented fifteen concerts across California, highlighting Olivier Messiaen's incredible wartime work, the Quartet for the End of Time.
