On December 16, 2011 festival sponsors Craig and Letitia Casebeer opened up their beautiful home in Piedmont, California, in the hills above Oakland, to an audience of 60 enthusiastic music lovers.  Festival musicians Ian Scarfe (piano), Philip Brezina (violin) and Charles Akert (cello) presented a program featuring short works by Bach, Faure, Brahms and Ravel, and Felix Mendelssohn's energetic Piano Trio in D Minor, Op. 49.  The atmosphere was festive, with a buffet of dishes brought by hosts and guests alike, and bottles of Trinity County wines donated by Butter Creek Winery and One Maple Winery.  This event raised nearly $2000 toward the 2012 Season of the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival.  A special video of music, photos, and videos from the 2011 festival was put together for this occasion by festival oboist Synde Sullivan.

Week Two!

The inaugural season of the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival continued this week with two more special concerts.  Audiences came to the two performances in Weaverville and Hyampom sorely needing a break from the hectic July 4 weekend, which was packed with activities.

The first concert on July 5 was in the meadow and flower garden next door to the Highland Art Center, where no less than ten musicians treated them to a program of classical masterpieces, by Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven, Dvorak, Devienne, and Arriaga.  The show was in collaboration with Highland Art Center's summer art show entitled "Let's Go Outside!", and the special outdoor concert was a perfect embodiment of that summer spirit.

They also presented two educational outreach programs, at the Weaverville Summer Day Camp and the Camp Trinity / Bar 717 Summer Camp, and a performance at the Hyampom Community Hall for an audience of 60 locals and visitors.

This week six talented musicians came to Trinity County for the first ever Chamber Music Festival, leaving both audiences and performers with lasting memories. After a retreat week spent in beautiful Hyampom, California, festival musicians kicked off the festival with a special outdoor concert at the beautiful Bar 717 Ranch of Camp Trinity.  An audience shared a special potluck dinner and enjoyed deer, birds, bats and other wildlife during performances of Dvorak's "American" Sting Quartet, Schumann's Piano Quintet, and Mozart's String Quartet in G Major.  Performers were even treated to a special gift (a stick) from Camp Trinity's grizzly old dog "Bear"... during a lively performance of the Dvorak!

The festival week continued with performances at Weaverville's Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center, and another outdoor concert at the spectacular Strawhouse Resort, looking over the Trinity River.  Guests enjoyed wine and cheese plates and the views of mountains and river, as performers serenaded them with the likes of Dvorak, Dohnanyi, and Mozart.

Founder and director Ian Scarfe was joined by festival co-founder Ellen McGehee, violinist Philip Brezina and cellist Erin Wang for a sneak preview of what Trinity County can expect from our summer festival concerts.  The performed two educational outreach concerts, one hosted by the Hayfork High School for over 100 area students, and another at the Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center for over 250 area students, parents, and teachers.

Their program led students through classical masterpieces by Bach, Mendelssohn, and Piazzolla, and showed how musicians have to work together to create chamber music in small groups.

A special concert for local audiences followed on March 6, featuring Bach's Concerto for Two Violins, selections from Piazzolla's Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, and Felix Mendelssohn's exciting and virtuosic Piano Trio in D Minor.
